As part of the unit EDAB101 Indigenous Studies, we were asked to complete a project linking Indigenous Peoples to classroom learning. My group chose to explore resources for use in the classroom. We explored; Books, Music, the National Museum of Australia and other additional resources. The prezi we completed for this presentation can be viewed by clicking on Indigenous Resources for the Classroom. By completing this project, I have found a great number of valuable resources can be used for teaching a wide range of children. This will be most beneficial when establishing my classroom and planning a culturally inclusive program for children.
One great resource I have found is FUSION an Australian Indigenous Music Show on SBS. It shows a mix of Aboriginal artists, famous and grassroots. Three of my favourites were Archie Roach and his song ‘Took the children away’, ‘We are the biker boys’ and ‘Black and Deadly’ by the Last Kinection. These songs could be embedded into classroom learning across a school year or as part of an inquiry unit on Indigenous peoples, culture and history.
